We refer to fine motor skills when we talk about the motor skills that allow the boy or girl make small and very precise movements, especially related to the upper extremities (arms, hands and fingers), and in which eye-hand coordination is essential. We can therefore deduce that it is a type of complex motor skills and that it requires the coordination of different functions of the neurological system, the muscular system and the skeletal system.
From the Nemomarlin Arganzuela Infant School They give us some ideas to help our children improve this motor skills.
Thanks to fine motor skills, human beings can perform activities as common and habitual as eating, caressing, picking up objects or writing. As the baby or child develops, their movements will improve and they will be able to perform actions with greater dexterity in a natural way. However, we can do a large number of activities that can stimulate, develop and strengthen skills related to fine motor skills.
There are many proposals that promote and improve fine motor skills as well as the digital caliper, which in the end will allow the student to have greater ease in future motor graph activities. Some of them are:
1. Make strokes with the index finger on different materials: sand, finger paint, flour, etc.
2. Manipulate and experiment with molding materials, such as plasticine, clay, salt masses, etc. creating different shapes.
3. Stimulate the movements of the hands and fingers with movements that accompany songs such as: 'pica, pica chick' or 'incy, wincy spider'.
4. Tear, crease, fold and manipulate paper of different textures: tissue paper, newspaper, crepe, cardboard, etc.
5. Handle, tighten and explode plastic from bubbles.
6. Follow with the index finger a predetermined stroke with increasing precision.
7. Drag moldable material such as modeling clay onto paper with your fingers for a plastic creation. The sand on the beach or in a park can also be very stimulating.
8. Handling and / or turning the pages of a magazine or story.
9. Paste or detach material such as: clay, stickers, pieces of paper or Eva rubber, etc.
10. Distribute letters or pages to classmates, one by one.
11. String different types of beads on cords. String or making pasta necklaces (macaroni).
12. On vertical spaghetti (you can use a clay or plasticine base), introduce macaroni from the top until the spaghetti is complete.
13. Raise and lower zippers. Put on or take off velcro.
14. Unbuckle laces or tie knots / ties with them.
15. Use age-appropriate materials such as punches or scissors to pierce or cut the paper.
In short, it is about making activities available to our boys and girls that, by way of play, allow them to train and perfect their manual skills.
