Homemade games to work with children on attention, memory and logic

Surely you will have large amounts of toys and games at home, but you will frequently ask yourself: Which of them are useful as cognitive training other than playful? Can we create new and useful games from home when we don't have them on hand or even get tired of the usual ones? The answer is yes and in this post we will propose several games to work at home with children memory, attention and logic.

Surely at home you will have a variety of logic games or also known as strategy games or puzzle solving, starting with classics like chess and checkers and continuing to sink the fleet or play detectives. But surely these simple proposals could serve as interactive and varied alternatives:

- We create mazes
We can print a variety of mazes that we find on the internet or we can create our own mazes, drawing, decorating and personalizing them to our liking. Here is an example: a dinosaur has to reach the cave or a rocket has to reach the moon, between two, three or as many possible paths as we want where only one reaches the correct destination.

- Geoplane
For this game we will need rubber bands, wood and small nails or push pins, but above all a lot of imagination to be able to create different geometric shapes (square, triangle, etc.) and figures (animals, houses, etc.).

- Treasure map between riddles
We can draw our house as if it were a treasure map with directions or clues that children have to guess, for example, the first clue is hidden in the coldest place in the house and surrounded by food, referring to the refrigerator. You can vary the amount and difficulty of the tracks, as well as the possible final prizes in the form of a treasure (a book, access to another game and the power of the television remote for a few hours).

If you have board games at home such as 'Memory' to train visual memory or 'Who is who' to train auditory memory, they can be two good options to develop the ability to remember and store. But there are other simple options:

- Find the objects
The child must cover his eyes and be very attentive to memorize the information that will be given aloud about where the objects are being hidden, for example, I will hide the blue marker under the table, the green marker above the TV and the yellow next to the door. Will he be able to find all the markers? Or if we asked for the green would he know where to find it? It is an excellent option to train your auditory memory.

- Missing objects
If on the table or on the floor we put a variety of objects (paper, pencil, cushions, toys, etc.), but when we closed our eyes one or more disappeared, could you remember which object was there before and now has disappeared? The number or quantity of objects can be varied according to age, being an excellent domestic option to train visual memory.

- Karaoke at home
Repeating songs can be another fun way to train your auditory memory, if you just hear it, or even auditory and visual memory, if you can read the lyrics for older children.

If you have board games at home such as puzzles, tangrams or crosswords, among others, all of them can be good options to work the attention of the little ones. But in case you need new and varied proposals to do with few resources, we propose three very fun activities:

- We look for differences with photographs
We can take a photograph of a space with a multitude of objects and details and then take a second photograph with 10 or more changes. Comparing the two photographs, the game will consist of being able to find the differences by paying close attention.

- Homemade puzzles
Any image from a magazine, photograph or handmade drawing can be cut into small squares that we can put back together as a fun puzzle, making up to 30 or 40 pieces and reinforcing it with laminates if we really want to use it again.

- Letter soup
With a paper and a pencil. By drawing a box or taking advantage of a gridded page we can include words in all directions and cover them with letters to create new homemade word searches.

With all these proposals, do you already know where to start? And it is that games are necessary and very important not only from the point of view of one's own mental training and fun, but they are also of special importance to share time and activities with our children.
