Post-vacation syndrome does not affect just 15 percent of adults. It also affects children. In fact, between 5 and 8 percent of children suffer from the symptoms of this syndrome. Sadness, apathy, listlessness, lack of concentration, anxiety, and irritability, are the main signs that can indicate that a child is affected by post-vacation syndrome. If the condition progresses, the symptoms may be physical, with headaches, stomach or insomnia.

Post-vacation syndrome causes physical and mental discomfort in children. To prevent these problems, experts advise that parents help their children to regain the school routine, at least a week before starting school. For that, it can help you to follow these recommendations to get back to the routine:

1. Set new hours to sleep and wake up. Little by little, you can adjust your vacation schedule with your school schedule. This will help the child not to come tired the first day of school. It will keep you from being irritated and moody.

2. Review of the previous course. Find a time each day for the children to review the contents of the previous course. It is advisable to review the multiplication tables, spelling rules, in some subject of Language, Knowledge of the Environment and English, to avoid any insecurity that you may feel when starting a new course.

3. Avoid leaving everything to the last minute. The purchase of textbooks, missing school supplies, backpack, pencil case, uniform or casual clothes should not be left to the last minute. The children can participate in some tasks such as covering the books, putting their names, organizing the materials and ordering. That will avoid the anxiety and worry of the children.

4. Reunion with friends. It would be interesting for the child to get in touch with his best friends from school and try to meet them personally to play, and thus break the ice of the reunion a bit.

5. Positive attitude. Avoid giving importance to the child's words when he complains that he has to go back to school. Who wouldn't like to always be on vacation? For this reason, seek to adopt a positive attitude. You will see that when you pick him up at school on the first day, he will return delighted and happy, and full of news to tell you.

The postvacational syndrome it usually lasts from two days to a week. It is not a disease, therefore, do not dwell on the subject. Avoid panic. It is a transitional stage. You should only really worry if, after two weeks, the child still does not want to go to school. Surely it will be for another reason.
